FAQ
Questions people actually ask.
Including the ones with answers we would rather not have to give.
Do you build websites?
No. We host and maintain websites other people build. That is deliberate: a company that both builds and maintains has an incentive to keep the site complicated. If you need a site built we are happy to point you at someone.
What happens if my site goes down at 2am?
Our monitoring checks your site every minute from multiple locations, and it alerts us, not you. A site that is completely down is urgent on every plan at any hour. In most cases we are already working on it before anyone at your company notices.
Can I keep my current web developer or agency?
Yes, and most of our customers do. Tell us who they are and we will give them the access they need. We handle the infrastructure and the maintenance; they handle the site. If their change breaks something, we restore it from backup and tell you plainly what happened.
Do I own my website?
Completely. Your content, your database, your domain and your customer data are yours throughout and after. If you leave, we hand you a complete copy in a standard format at no charge and cooperate with your new host. Holding a customer's website hostage is a tactic used by companies that cannot keep customers any other way.
Is there a contract or minimum term?
No minimum term on monthly plans. Cancel any time, effective at the end of the period you have paid for. Annual plans save two months and can be cancelled at any point so they do not renew.
How much downtime does moving to you cause?
In a normal migration, none that a visitor would notice. We build a complete copy on our infrastructure, you test it, and only then do we switch the domain over at a time you pick. Your existing site keeps running the whole time.
Will moving the website affect my email?
Not if it is done properly. Website hosting and email are separate services that happen to share a domain name, and we pin your mail records before touching anything else. This is the single most common way a migration goes wrong elsewhere, which is why it is a distinct step in our process.
What is actually in the Owner's Report?
Uptime, page speed, when the site last changed, whether the forms are reaching an inbox, what software is out of date, blocked attacks, unrecognised administrator accounts, certificate validity, whether search engines can index the site, and the date of the last successful restore test. Facts we measure directly, with no conclusions drawn.
Does the report grade my marketing agency?
No. We report what the website does, not what anybody promised to do, because we have never seen your agreement with them and grading it would be guesswork. What the facts mean is your call. Many owners forward the report to their agency, and a shared set of facts tends to end arguments rather than start them.
Are you HIPAA compliant?
That question does not have a yes or no answer, and anybody who gives you one quickly is selling something. A practice website that provides information and takes appointment enquiries is ordinary hosting. A website that stores patient records or clinical intake data is a different service with different requirements, and it is not what our published plans cover. Talk to us about your specific situation before assuming either way.
What does the Practice plan actually add?
Monthly review of what third-party scripts are loading and where, alerts when that inventory changes, form and intake integrity checks, a quarterly evidence archive retained for six years, faster support response, a named contact, and a year of backup retention.
Who is Website Guardians?
A managed hosting and website care service operating under Kyoken Labs Inc., a New York corporation. Small, deliberately. You can read more about us.
